Elliott Walker (1st season) joins East Los Angeles College as the Women's Head Volleyball Coach. Coach Walker has coached volleyball at various levels: elementary, high school, college, and club.
During his early years, he played basketball, soccer, and ran track. As a participant in high school (Verbum Dei), he took part on many teams that have either won multiple league or CIF Championship titles. Thus, he's no stranger to the work ethic required for developing competitive teams, athletes, and a winning program. Throughout his four years of high school, he was a 4-year CIF 1st Team athlete and maintained a 3.6 GPA. After graduating from Verbum Dei, he attended California State University, Los Angeles. Upon graduating, he received a Bachelors of Arts in Education and a minor in biological sciences. He holds a Masters of Arts Degree in Education and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership and Curriculum from the University of Phoenix. He holds USA Volleyball Impact certification, CAP 1 certification, and NHFS certification.
Coach Walker is a student of the game of volleyball. He credits his interest in volleyball to Coaches James Paschal, LaVerne University, and his personal mentor and friend Dr. Marv Dunphy, Pepperdine University. Emulating the works of excellent and successful coaches along his journey, Coach Walker's personal success is reflected in a career coaching record of 621 career wins and 112 losses. Throughout the years, he has lead teams to earn 22/26 undefeated seasons, 23/26 post-season competition play, 12/17 CIF final four finishes, 15/17 quarter final appearances, 3 time CIF Finalist, 1 CIF Championship, 5/8 Junior National Division Championships, and 8/10 Elementary School Championships.
Coach Walker is certainly a fixture in the Eastside Community. During his 20 plus years of teaching and coaching, he served students and athletes of the East Los Angeles Community. Coach Walker taught at Santa Isabel Elementary, Cathedral High School, and Bishop Mora Salesian High School. He has coached numerous student-athletes from neighboring schools in the community (Roosevelt, Garfield, Wilson, Maywood, Huntington Park, Temple City, Schurr, Montebello, Bell Gardens, Alhambra, Cantwell Sacred Heart, Ramona Convent, Bell, Lynwood, and Bosco Tech) to name a few. Many of the athletes, if not all of them, have attended and graduated from college.
As Coach Walker is a father and a mentor to many, he enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren. When not involved with his family, he enjoys a weekend of rest, fishing, attending college sporting events, family events, and spending time with nature reflecting on his personal and spiritual development.
Coach Walker states, "I look forward to transforming a program, building teams for the future, and molding champions both on and off the court."
