IT ON CAMPUS

IT Security & Policies: Info Tech Security

Network Security: The IT Department is in the process of implementing a set of major security features to the campus network. The Cisco Security Monitoring, Analysis, and Response System (MARS) is a set of network tools which will allow our department to monitor the level of network traffic and troubleshoot issues. One component, the LAN Management Solution (LMS), provides InfoTech with an improved access control service to perform a network-level audit for changes which may be caused by threats to the system. The Unified Contact Center Enterprise (UCCE) uses the campus Voiceover IP (VoIP) phone system to route incoming calls into a queue which can be answered by staff within the queue. This feature will be used in offices such as Admissions, Financial Aid, and InfoTech. The Access Control Server (ACS) is a platform that helps comply with growing regulatory requirements. It will help authenticate and authorize wireless users, and will work with the Virtual Private Network (VPN) and other devices to enforce access policies. The Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) will allow us to identify, classify and prevent malicious traffic such as worms, spyware, adware, network viruses and application abuse.

Data Security: Computers on campus that store sensitive information are required to be encrypted. For this reason, all the computers in key areas are to be encrypted for security purposes. The encryption software protects all data in the Hard Drive(s). If a computer were to be stolen, the data is protected. All departments that handle sensitive data are expected to comply with the data encryption policy.

Wireless Networks Security: The IT Help Desk offers limited support for setting up and connecting to non-UI Wireless networks. See your wireless router manufacturer's documentation for instructions. However, this page offers some tips and links to additional sites that may help you set up and secure your wireless network.
