• File a 2012-13 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov. Our school code for the application is 001222. Earlier is best. Financial Aid Notification will be send to your email address.

Check your "Financial Aid Status" online at the SIS system, at least five (5) days after your submitted the FAFSA application online:

• Go to the ELAC Financial Aid website at http://finaid.elac.edu
• Click "check your Financial Aid status online".
• Once in the SIS system, select "Financial Aid" from the right side of the menu bar.
• Select the campus name "East Los Angeles College"
• Select the semester "Fall 2012"
• Select the award year "2012-2013
• Click on the "Financial Aid Status" on the bottom of the page
• If we received your FAFSA information, the page will display your status or list the outstanding documents that you will need to complete.
• Please note: Almost all documents are available online.

All students will need to complete these online forms (login into the SIS system).

• Selecting Your Financial Aid Processing School. The day you submit this form is your priority date. We process financial aid for students in the order they are received- do this at once.
• Update your Educational Goal (If you have already selected a financial aid eligible goal, and if there are no changes, you do not need to do this again)
• Update your Authorization for Charges (If you have not already done so and if there are no changes, you do not need to do this again)

Some Students required additional documentation.

• Verification Worksheet - Form located on the SIS system under "Online Forms - Financial Aid Verification Process". Dependent students will need to complete, print and submit a copy of their verification worksheet. A link to print the document can be found on the verification web page - it will need a parent signature.
• Those who have filed (or parents have filed taxes) will be asked to provide copies of tax transcripts or other paperwork.

• Fee Waiver process - Based on the information from your FAFSA, the Financial Aid Office will automatically process a fee waiver for eligible students. Additional documentation may be requested for some students.
• Financial Aid Award Notification - The Financial Aid Office will send a notification to your email notifying you of your award status and also post it on the SIS online system.
• Federal Work-Study Award - If your award include the Federal Work-Study program, you must attend a group FWS orientation and accept the award. The orientation schedule is on the ELAC Financial Aid website under menu "Apply for Financial Aid > Processing Timeline". Students who have been awarded FWS must attend the group orientation and accept the award by the end of August; otherwise, their FWS award will be cancelled by the 2nd week of September 2012.
• Interested in a possible work-study job for next fall? We will process requests for work-study based on when students submit the Federal Work-Study Interest online form electronically. Priority is given to those who had requested Federal Work-Study (FWS) on their FAFSA form and meet the requirements. Students who wish to be considered for FWS can complete the online request form (SIS online system > Online Forms >Federal Work Study Interest). The form will be available for all students during the last week of June. The form will be opened for one week only. For your best chance at a work study job, complete all the documents required beforehand and go to the site on the day it opens and apply as soon as possible.
• Financial Aid Disbursement - All financial Aid disbursements are transferred electronically to the student's myLACCD debit card. All new students should look for a green envelope with information about their debit card or how to direct payments to another account.
